For a Daughter, From a Daughter
“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19 NIV

I have
a little
Etsy shop
that’s more
like a hobby
harboring
treasures
and trinkets
that have
brought
me
big joy.
Some still do.
And
a week
before
Christmas
a vintage
bride doll
boxed away
from my birth
to
that very day
was
purchased
for such a time as this.
Love’s timing is always perfect.
The buyer
sent a note
mingled
like
music
with hope
and
with love
sharing
that
her
“most wonderful”
Mom
was
living
in an
Alzheimers
community.
She
was
searching
to bring her
something
familiar
for Christmas.
Below
her words
was a
breathtaking
photo
of an adorable little girl
in her Christmas best
cuddling a bride doll
that looked
exactly
like
mine.
Exactly the same, y’all.
I tried
to grasp
that
something
lost in a trunk
for so long
could
perhaps
possibly
please Lord Jesus
bring happy
to her
Mom’s
little girl soul.
Wouldn’t that be “most wonderful?”
Dear one
when
it seems
there’s
nothing
we can do
there’s
always
something
we can do.
We can LOVE.
So
before
I packed
the doll
to go
I stood her
by our tree
next to ornaments
that represented
Daddy
Mama
and me.
And
whispered
a prayer
for a daughter
from a daughter
in this season
with a reason
mingled like music
with hope and with love. XOXO
Spread your joy,
