You Be You – Take Two

“If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” Psalm 139:9-10 NIV

Last year, I was dancing towards a big birthday.

One that ended in a zero, y’all.

It paused me to ponder my purpose.

To rediscover grateful in being who God created me to be.

But, lately, I’ve been dreadfully detoured.

Distractions demanded attention.

Focus surrendered first place…

Allowing doubts to diminish my dreams.

Sometimes the only way to find perspective is to lose focus.

Sweet friend, your distractions may be different than mine.

But, their determination is the same.

To tempt us with a temporary fix to our faith-weary souls.

They slither in and wither our wonder.

Fill us with fear.

Lie to our faces.

I am so SO done with them.

Aren’t you?

That’s why I needed to revisit (below) my blog post called You Be You.

I wrote it last year around this time.

May it encourage our hearts.

And remind us of who we are.

Whose we are.

An amazing one-of-a-kind child of God.

Believe it, beloved.

Seek His face.

Sparkle His truth.

Share His love.

Hey there, child of God!

You Be You. XOXO

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 NIV

I’ve been in a season of reflection.

Perhaps it’s because another birthday is on the horizon.

A BIG one, y’all.

Or, maybe, it’s simply part of this journey called life.

So, it didn’t seem like a coincidence when the billboard in the middle of nowhere shouted three convicting words:

You Be You.

My soul sighed with understanding.

See, there have been (too) many times in my existence when I was afraid to be me.

Downright afraid.

And, guess what I’ve discovered?

Fear can blind us to the unique within us.

It steals our freedom.

It’s just plain ugly.

It needs to go.

I want the rest of my days to be the best of my days.

Fearless and hopeful.

Don’t you?

Alrighty then.

Let’s move on…

Dream on.

I’m a dreamer from way back.

When I was seven, I wanted to be a nurse, a teacher, and a singer with The Monkees…all in the same day.

Yet, as my little girl wishes transformed into big girl responsibilities, I allowed fear to diminish my dreams.

Gratefully, dreams are timeless, lovely.

It’s the doubts that do us in.

Let’s shine some Light on their slithering shadows.

His brighter than the sun Love that sparkles, “Fear not.”

Fear. Not.

Man, I love that.

So, what are you waiting for, fellow dreamer?

You Be You.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”  Psalm 27:1 NIV

Keep on.

I couldn’t wait to join the school band.

My heart’s desire?

Drums…of course….a choice that was quickly redirected by the folks.

In favor of a flute.

I actually embraced its sweet sound, then immediately began striving to be the best flute player ever. But, when a move to a new school shook my confidence and downgraded my status from first flute to second flute, there was only one choice to make.

A regret I carry to this day.

Comparison is a virus, dear one. Be the cure.

Translated: My best is good enough.

Oh lovely, don’t be afraid to orchestrate your one-of-a-kind music to this world.

It’s #1 hit song?

You Be You.

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NIV

Love on.

Daddy-O was a hugger.

He’d start hugging people from the back to the front of the church, all before the first stanza of He Lives.

Mama’s affection was tender and just as loving.

So, it’s no surprise that “love” is my favorite word.

In fact, for a long time, I limited it to my personal friends and family plan.

Those I chose to love.

You know?

Ahhh, but God wants us to expand our plan.

When we love like He does, there’s always room for one more.

What are we afraid of?

Let’s invite others into His love.

What does that even look like?

It looks like you.

You Be You.

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:10-11 NIV

I’m amazed at how God uses the unexpected to get our attention.

Even a billboard on a not so random road.

His nudge to my heart that day was an affirmation.

Let go of the past, child.

Fear not.

Embrace what is yet to come.

Live free.

May we listen to His sweet whisper and let it linger…

You be you, beloved.

You be you, Tina.

You Be You. XOXO
