Mission Trip

“For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:11-12 (NIV)

We were on a mission.

My husband and I were so excited to get to THE game that we didn’t even listen to the weather report.

Nothing was gonna stop us!

So, we rolled along at maximum speed on the four-lane highway singing and laughing.

Until we noticed the pile up of vehicles ahead.

And as he tried to slow our car down, the brakes locked.

Black ice.

Before either of us could process it, we were dancing among a sea of other vehicles, spinning to the left, then to the right, around and around.

Yet everything felt like it was in slow motion.

I remember bracing for impact.

I remember screaming for God to help us.

And I remember the man in the raincoat.

He was standing along the side of the road and every time the car spun his way, there he was, his eyes looking directly into mine.

Suddenly, our car stopped.

When it did, we were still on the road and facing in the direction we originally wanted to go.

The mayhem of vehicles was behind us.

Not a scratch or a dent…on the car or on us.

Neither Frank nor I spoke a word.

But we watched THE game in the comfort of home.

Later that evening, we felt safe enough to talk about the day.

“All I can remember is that guy in the raincoat, just looking at us,” he said.

“Me too,” I replied.

Suddenly, we looked at each other.

“Do you think he was an angel?”  I asked.

He just shrugged his shoulders.

Of course, we will never know this side of Heaven.

But the one thing we were sure of then and are sure of now is that God protected us.

Sooo, what about you?

Do you ever feel like your life is spinning out of control on an invisible road of black ice?

Take heart, friend.

Your Heavenly Father is protecting you in ways you can’t even imagine!

He goes before you.

He stands behind you.

He. Is. Enough.

Yes, that morning my husband and I were on a mission.

But so was He.

Hallelujah, so was He.

And it was a trip we will never forget.

Spread your joy,

Spread your joy,
